WWE Diva and highly successful businesswoman Stephanie McMahon has openly admitted to undergoing breast augmentation surgery. Stephanie McMahon’s boobs have been a popular topic in the WWE fan discourse: poked fun at by other wrestlers, photographed from every angle and discussed openly in the media. But how did one Diva’s boobs become such a hot topic?
Rewind to the year 2001: a more innocent time, when sending an e-mail was exciting and you had to watch television programs as they aired or miss out. WWE, the giant of the wrestling world, was going strong. Suddenly the young Diva Stephanie disappeared for a month, only to return with significantly larger breasts.
The Stephanie McMahon boobs rumours flew thick and fast. Though Stephanie tried to dodge them for a period of time, eventually she had to face up. In August 2001, during an interview on the controversial Opie and Anthony radio show, Stephanie confessed the truth. She had elected to undergo surgery only a month before the interview occurred. While the revelation surprised nobody, her honest approach to the subject was brave. Even today, the general attitude towards plastic surgery is that it should be kept a secret. For Stephanie to own it and speak out unapologetically was an admirable move.
The Reason Why
So why did the beautiful Diva feel the need to have breast implants? To any WWE performer, criticism and insults from the audience are part of the job; like water off a duck’s back. The fans can be unbelievably vicious and place a lot of pressure on the wrestlers. Stephanie was hardy and for the most part, disregarded the hateful barbs directed her way. However, one day, she spotted a sign in the crowd which referred to her breasts as saggy.
The obnoxious, rude sign was far from the worst insult hurled at Stephanie, but it was one which touched on a sore point. She had previously worked hard to lose weight, which in turn decreased the size of her breasts. They are often one of the first parts of the body that a woman will lose weight from. Stephanie was already unhappy with the way her breasts looked, stating that “they were like melted packets of butter”. The sign was the final straw for the long-suffering Diva. She took a break from television and elected to put herself under the knife.
Looking at the early pictures of Stephanie, she looks absolutely beautiful already. Her wrestling career has given her a toned, athletic physique, and she was well-endowed even before pursuing cosmetic surgery. It’s impossible to imagine what was going through the head of the so-called ‘fan’ who chose such a demeaning, untrue insult. Despite this, the choice to have surgery was entirely Stephanie’s, a decision supported by her mother and guided by medical professionals.
On the whole, her experience with plastic surgery seems to have been a positive one. Undergoing breast augmentation surgery was a huge boost for Stephanie’s confidence. Nobody could ever refer to her breasts as ‘saggy’ again. “It was my own personal decision to have that done,” the Diva said. “I was proud of what I did.”
She certainly didn’t let her larger assets stop her from dominating in the wrestling ring. Stephanie continued her career with WWE throughout the past decade and even now holds her position as the Commissioner of WWE’s raw brand. She is certainly a step away from the stereotype of the blonde, busty Barbie doll woman who we usually associate with boob jobs.
Has Stephanie had any other surgeries since? Judging from all photos of her, it seems unlikely. Her face hasn’t changed dramatically in the nearly two decades she’s been in the WWE spotlight. Clearly, having her breasts augmented was enough plastic surgery for Stephanie McMahon.
